President Kang Yeong-jung, 56, of the Korea Badminton Association was voted as new President of the International Badminton Federation for a four-year term at its general assembly held in Beijing, China. President Kang, a sole candidate, was voted unanimously by the attending 131 delegates from 156 member countries. This brings the number of Korean presidents of international sports federation four including President Park Yong-seong of the International Judo Federation, President Cho Jung-won of the World Taekwondo Federation, and President Park Sang-ha of the International Soft Tennis Federation. "Badminton has been known to be the sports of Asia and Europe. During my term, I will serve as a messenger to spread the sport to America, Oceania, and Africa tapping into those uncharted territories," President Kang said. For this purpose, he plans to establish "badminton promotion foundation," build training centers, and dispatch instructors. Concurrently Chairman of Daekyo Group, President Kang founded Nunnopi Female Badminton team in 1997, assumed the presidency of the Korea Badminton Association in July 2003, and inaugurated as President of the Asia Badminton Federation in November 2004.
